Takashi Tsuji Profile

It has been eight years since I launched a research department at Tokyo University of Science in 2001. Thanks to support from universities, private companies, students who belong to my research department, as well as research funds provided by public agencies and private companies, we can now present the results of our scientific research in high-quality journals. I am sincerely grateful for all the support I have received.

I have three goals I wish to achieve through operating my research department at the university. One is to attain results that are scientifically valuable through our research activities, ultimately deepening the knowledge of humankind. Toward this end, our research department is conducting basic research activities focused on regenerative medicine from the perspective of stem cells and intercellular interactions, glycobiology aimed to elucidate sugar chain functions, and cell biology of cell polarity formation through cytoskeleton rearrangement.

My second goal is to connect the results obtained through research to technologies and new drug development to benefit society. We pursue innovative technology development in regenerative medicine, where the treatment satisfaction level is still low. We hope to jointly develop technologies that will lead to improved safety and cost reduction of bio-pharmaceuticals with private companies. Thus, we aim at research & development that meets society’s needs. In regenerative medicine research aimed at organ replacement regenerative medicine in particular, we have established a regenerative medical venture jointly with private companies, aiming to contribute to society through research & development.

My last goal is to promote human resources development that enables each individual to grow. We will enhance the abilities to solve problems and develop creativity to achieve a goal and cultivate the spirit of independence and autonomy through research activities. Furthermore, we will help personnel to acquire sociality through joint research activities with private companies as contact point with society. Thus, we will pursue human resources development that fosters unique and irreplaceable personnel.

We will continue persistent efforts so that we can meet expectations from society including medical personnel, students and their families, and patients and their families who hope for the development of innovative medical technologies.

Your guidance and support will be greatly appreciated.
