Established therapy for the loss of the tooth
In the dental field, it had been established of the therapy for the loss of the tooth, which is one of ectodermal organs. After the loss of tooth by injury, caries or diseases, the therapy, such as “bridge” and “implant”, had been established to prevent the movement of the neighboring teeth and supplement of tooth functions. Although these therapy is very effective for the loss of the tooth, these therapies should be improved to have a more biological effects. Therefore, transplantation of a natural tooth such as third molar is now trying. This biological therapy is one of the concepts in organ transplantation. In next generation, the therapy will be performed by the transplantation of a bioengineered tooth, which is constructed by the single cell manipulation of stem cells. We think that the “tooth” is a good feasibility study model and an attractive organ for the development of the technologies for future organ replacement regenerative therapy. So, I chose the tooth as a model for organ reconstitution. However, no technology yet exists that enables us to create and grow organs through the single cell manipulation.
